Sender details

Use this guide to fill in step 3 of the CWR creator, "Sender details". CWR (Common Works Registration) is the text format publishers use to register works with collecting societies.

Your file is never uploaded.

What the details are for

The header of a CWR file says who sent the file. The creator writes that header from three things you enter: the sender type, the sender code, and the sender name. It also writes the date and time. We take the date and time from your device when you build. The header names the software that made the file as Royalti CWR, with its version.

Sender type

Choose one from the "Sender type" list:

  • Publisher (PB)
  • Society (SO)
  • Writer (WR)
  • Administrative agency (AA)

The list starts on Publisher (PB). Choose the one that describes who is sending the file.

Sender code

The "Sender code" box says: "Required. Up to nine digits. You get this code from your society or administrator. We never make one up."

  • Where it comes from. The society or administrator you send files through gives you the code. Ask them if you do not have it.
  • What you can type. Digits only, up to nine. A code of all zeros is not accepted, because zeros mean no code was entered.
  • What we do not do. We never make up a code, and the creator will not build a file without one. A code that is not yours would name the wrong sender.

The sender code also goes into the default file name. See Build, check, and download your file.

Sender name

The "Sender name" box says: "Up to 45 characters." Enter the name of the sender, for example, your company name. The name goes in the header in capitals, and it cannot be empty.

A control character or a soft hyphen in the name is an error. A letter outside plain A to Z makes the file name its character set as UTF-8.

When a detail has a problem

The creator checks the details after you leave a box, and when you select "Build the CWR file" with a sheet that has no errors. A message appears under the box it is about. The creator does not build until each message is fixed.

What you see

What to do

The sender code is empty.

Enter the code your society or administrator gave you.

The sender code is not up to nine digits.

Use digits only, and no more than nine.

The sender code is all zeros.

Enter the real code.

The sender name is empty.

Enter a name.

The sender name is longer than 45 characters.

Shorten it. The count is in capitals.

The messages on the page are longer than these lines, and they name the value you typed.

If you change a detail after you build, the result goes away, because the file would no longer match. Select "Build the CWR file" again to get a file that matches.

What to check next

  1. Go on to Build, check and download your file.
  2. Check the code with your society or administrator before you send the file. A society checks the sender against its own records.
